We went to
downtown Hartford yesterday, for a change. There is a series of free activities organized throughout the summer at the
Riverfront Park. We saw "Guitars Under the Stars", although we left well before sunset (no stars!).
The first hours was a
husband & wife duo. The guy asked to cut in front of us at the beer stand (was a very hot day here), he said: "if you don't mind, I'm supposed to be on stage in a few minutes, and my wife will kill me if I'm late". Of course we let him through, and he offered to buy us our beer. Only after he left did we realize that he bought two beers, although Roxi doesn't drink... Free show and two free beers... :) We enjoyed their music: it included a very nice rendition of
Recuerdos de la Alhambra, and some Brazilian stuff, among others. Julia was dancing on the grass.
The
next guy was much better technically, but a less conventional style. Some parts were spectacular, but Julia was getting tired by then, so we headed home.
All in all, a very nice day. We were surprised at how few people attended this free concert. Quite a difference from
Montreal's Jazz Fest, where it's almost too crowded (or is that part of the fun?).
We're thinking of going next weekend for the 7th Annual Dragon Boat Races and Asian Festival... hopefully we'll bring a camera this time.
