Look at my squash!!

We picked the first squash out of our garden this afternoon (before the rain started). Julia's been very excited/interested in it, she walks up to us, and saying "Look at my squash!!!". She also tried to take a bite out of it, before we explained to her that it needs to be cooked... (FYI, it's a yellow crook-neck summer squash).

More exciting news about our garden: our first tomatoes are ripe, Julia had some yesterday, and she couldn't get enough. We also have a "mystery plant" growing in our garden, it just sprouted out all on its own, and we had no idea what it was until we had a closer look today: it's a watermelon, and it already has a few small melons. Which is a very pleasant surprise, as we all love watermelon. It must have sprouted out from the compost we put on our garden.

Here's a picture from earlier today: we went to the Farmer's market with Andy and Marcia.

The Red Caboose

The girls, spending some energy, from a month or two ago (we're much less up-to-date with our videos than we are with our photos).

Synopsis: singing "The Red Caboose", Mama and Buca are cheerleading, some girls are faster than others, and Julia gets tired of being bumped out of the way.

Today

The hostas are in flower...

On the rails-to-trails today, Julia wanted to get down and stretch her legs, with her little pig.

Berries and Flowers

This morning we picked some more blueberries (the season is short, and we max out the freezer - in case we need some blueberry pancakes in the middle of winter).

Rosie, Jesse and Kim joined us. Here are the girls looking silly:

The rest are from around the house this afternoon (while Julia slept).

Mamaia used to say: "see the flower? It opened just for you".

Julia looking a little disappointed when I told her she probably wouldn't slide very well on a bare bum. (Flower is a tigerlily)

Echinacea flowers:

California poppy:

Meanwhile, Julia was swinging.

More Sepia

Trying a little more sepia these days...

Blueberry Sunday

We spend a good part of today at Windsong farm (in Pomfret, just a little past Ashford). The weather was beautiful, sunny and slightly breezy, and the blueberries were at their peak. We took home a few buckets full, and had a good time doing it.

Julia getting started:

The Bounty:

Soon afterwards, the nieces showed up, and started picking "for daddy".

Relaxing after the picking.

Being silly about the loud noises heard in the distance.

When Aiyana is running around, it's hard to take a picture of her.

Monkeying around:

Back to the car (fell asleep in 2 minutes!).

Nuwasitty!!

Julia was pretty excited to go to New York on Saturday. We'd talked about it the previous weekend, but decided not to go because of rain. This weekend was just gorgeous so headed out there for the day. We didn't really see much of NYC, since we went straight from Grand Central to Central Park and back.

The Patootie had a blast walking around, seeing all the dogs, and playing in all the playgrounds.

I went without coffee for the day (!!), since I forgot to get some before we left the house, and then couldn't find a place that sold coffee in actual cups (only paper cups). Resolutions have a price, I guess.

There's something about NYC that brings out the romance...

Further North in the park, not watching a live show of some sort.

2 guys playing very cool music (sounding a little Peruvian, maybe?)

One of the elaborate playgrounds, full of kids and their parents...

Catching Up

A few days ago, having fun.

This morning, 9:45, after having woken up at 5, asked for a bagel, and fell asleep while eating it...

July 4th Party

We were invited to an awesome party on Friday (July 4th), to Patty and Andy's house. A gorgeous back yard, a big swing, outdoor firepit and hot tub (we did not use it :( ) , great people and good food. Oh, and a live band and fireworks too.

Julia on a big swing.

The Mocanu girls looking pretty. The dog is Rose, an elderly lab.

Good Rose.

Uncle Ed, looking pretty.

The live band.

Thanks for a great evening!
