His Old Haunt

We took advantage of a nice day to take a little hike in Ashford, where Roxi used to take Barkly all the time.

Barkly, 1995 - 2009

Barkly is no longer with us.  We had him put down this morning.  It was a tough decision, but it was right for many reasons.  14 is well into old age for a big dog, and he's had a very good life.  He was a great dog, and we'll miss him.  The house feels empty right now, it will probably take a little while for us to get used to coming home to an empty home.

Here are some pictures of the good boy... all from a few years ago.

He was a good winter dog.  It was never too cold for him.  He used to love splashing in little rivers in the middle of winter.  Sometimes he had to break the top layer of ice to get through to the water...

He was a playful dog.  Even as an old dog, he kept running around in the house, and loved to chase sticks or snowballs in the yard.  When I mowed the lawn, he'd tag along and walk behind me.  Only in the last few years, when his legs started getting weak, did he stop playing.

He was a handsome dog. :)

One of the last pictures of Barkly, taken through the back door 2 days ago.  Year ago, he would have run out and rolled around in the snow.  This time he just sat there.

R.I.P. buddy, we'll miss you.
(This was was after a swim in the lake near our house)

Winter Walk

We took a short walk near Fenton river. Unfortunately, it was a little too shady (coniferous trees...), but it's always beautiful there.

What's That?

What's that? You want more pictures of Julia?

Wintertime

A few more pictures of winter around here.

This is what crappy windows look like from the inside in the winter.

Near Eagleville Dam yesterday:

Today, around Mansfield Hollow.

Snow Julia

We got about 20cm of snow yesterday, which means that our yard is now a decent hill for a 2 year old.  Despite the -15C temperature, it was sunny, and we had a good time.

Here she is all bundled up.

PS: Happy New Year everybody, hope to see you all soon.
